July 4th Parade

Almost every year since our chapter started, we have participated in the July 4th Parade.  This year the parade was held on the morning of 7/3, and even with the treats of rain, and continued sprinkles, the parade was well attended.  The pictures surrounding the float gave a visual representation of those fighting to protect our country and its allies, to those lined up to watch the parade.  In some small way we felt that our sons and daughters were with us.  Plenty of candy was given,  and some were saying “this is like trick or treat!” kids exclaimed.   Many flyers were given out as well, not only regarding the Blue Star Mother information but the information of where to drop off donations with a list of items to send AND the “Battle of the Branches” blood drive which will be on November 3, 2012.    Maybe we will pick up more members by letting the community know we are here to support them and their deployed family members and veterans.

Recent Memorial Day Events
One of the events was at the Allen Philharmonic Patriotic Concert event at 7pm at the Joe Farmer Recreation Center in Allen.  We had a tent and pass out information about our group, sell our afghans and take donation for the packages we mail to the deployed troops.  The Philharmonic played a lovely collection of patriotic music to entertain everyone.  The address for Joe Farmer Recreation Center is 1201 East Bethany Drive in Allen, Tx.
