ACTIVITIES

We have monthly business meetings on the 4th Thursday of each month in Plano, Tx at the Haggard Office Building at 7pm in the Conference Room.  The office building is located at 800 Central Pkwy E Suite 100 in Plano,Tx at the corner of Ave G and Central Pkwy East, just east of 75 and park Blvd.  We have speakers come to discuss items that affect our troops and their families as well as provide us places to seek help for them.  We discuss the upcoming events and finalize plans for the community support we seek to provide.  We talk about our military loved ones which helps us to bond to each other as they go through deployment cycles.  The church allows us to hold our meetings there and we appreciate their support of our group.  Each December we also have a combined meeting for November/December and have one holiday party in early December.

In order to support the deployed troops, we mail packages with food, personal care items and cards/letters of love, appreciation and support.  We normally pack our boxes for deployed troops on the Sundays  at 2pm after our monthly business meeting at 2030 Avenue G #1108 in Plano, Tx.  We thank the Haggard Family for allowing us to store and pack at their building.  As our troops get these packages, it means they know they are thought of and that someone packed this box with love for them and their fellow military troops.  Most of the troops who get boxes,  share these special treats with those who aren’t as fortunate to get a package from home.  We recently sent a package and after the soldier read the cards, he passed them on to another soldier, who just by chance used to be from this area.  She wrote us just to let us know how much that card meant to her and that she was still carrying it with her all the time.  We have various groups like schools and scout troops who get involved with collecting and packing boxes with us as service projects.

Our chapter is involved in many area community projects.  We visit the VA Hospitals twice a month on various days for each of the three locations from Dallas, Bonham and Ft Worth and handle a hospitality cart with refreshments and reading materials for the veterans there receiving medical care.  We also visit the Fisher House on the VA Hospital campus and provide meals for the residents to assist them, as they are there with their military member who is receiving care.

We are fortunate enough to have DFW airport close by.  DFW Airport has a very active USO, who assist and used to organize  “Greet the Troops” who were coming in on R & R flights.  We as a group made this memorable event twice a month for many years until it was cancelled, as well as coordinate other visits with other local groups like Scout troops and Rotary groups.

Each year we are involved in several local area Memorial Day events, honoring those who gave some and especially honoring those who gave it all.  Our veterans have made many sacrifices, that they deserve our respect and honor for ever.  We are also involved in a local July 4th Parade and we have an annual “Battle of the Branches” Blood drive on the Saturday before Veterans day.  This is held in front of the Recruiters Station in Plano and after donating blood, each person can vote for the Military Branch of their choice.  The Marines have proudly won the traveling trophy for several years but it is normally a very close race wtih the Army.  You could make the difference to many lives by a blood donation.

Poor Richards Restaurant in Plano, Tx at Park Blvd and Ave K allows us to come be a part of their celebration of the Veterans on Memorial Day, Marine Birthday and Veterans Day.  We get to greet the Veterans, give them a name tag, hear their stories and give them a free meal card.  Thank you so much to Richard Butterly and James Wells of Poor Richards for including us in these wonderful days of military support.

We are trying to make a difference in veterans lives, both the current military and the prior service members.  We hope that other mothers of troops will come, get involved and support our military and each other.  For further information about joining our chapter, click on the membership tab.
